- (10/11/24): SONIC FETISHISM IN TEKNO



Noticing the barrier:

Tekno sonic-fetishism evolves into an enduring act of ceremony. The acid-techno musician identifies the barrier and will abduct the audience into trance by drawing them into the ‘singularity’. The techno-ist paradoxically incites the audience down a spiral towards this breakthrough. Only at the bottom of the spiral do the participants realise the paradox the tekno-ist has created for them. “And you fucking love it” - [KODWO].

Rather than retreating and restarting the cycle. Acid Tekno-ists mimic the attempt at breaking through the barrier. Heavy metallic schizophonic sound shreaks through phase plugs and bass bins to force a crowd to fall in to the centre of the sound. Faces split between pain, confusion and ultimate joy as we take further steps towards the inevitable promise of a single breakthrough. This incites individual schizoid paradoxes in which the individual seeks ontology. Who is in control? The Acid-tek[nist]?, the sound?, The speaker box builder???


Only is the tekno-ist allowed to interfere with the interface. They are in complete control. Maybe go to the back of the room to look for the tech-head programmers who run the lighting and sound. Find one of their eyeballs stuck to the modulating lights on the software. With another one pulsing at your direction. Sweating profusely as they euphorically re-wire their own tekno-brain. You look at the screen and pull a funny face and go “what the fuck,” to your mate.  

The overlapping system of capitalism rots in every corner of the room. Yet, in the mold of this active, bubbling chaos, illusional pockets of syncretic equations temporarily escape the meta-version of the system that has to exist. The infrastructure that allows the spider to weave its web. 

This ceremony has little to no residue. And that feels good. As you are human chasing something. The point is, you’re not supposed to understand it. This interface operates to connect you via golden cable, it incites an entity that you correlate to previously understood topics that you were proud to know of. That you were fucken excited to find out about. Before it fades, only to be re-rhythmised by somebody else operating on that same system. You get some ceremonies with residue. Interference distracting you from that internally slippy thought that are wishing to be lured into hyper-rhythmatics. However, that third thing stops you. Sticky residue that is a result of an error. A dis-function, unrecognised pattern, unfamiliar face.  

There will always be an imposter, 1 + 1 = 3. It’s within the stick web, that culture bubbles and systems overlap. When strong systems do synchronise, a pocket is created. As HAKIM BEY calls this, The ‘temporary autonomous zone.’ This space has to be intimate. If there’s any imposter, disguised as an ideology, as complex as a person, etc. The T.A.Z disintegrates and is left for the next person to re-wire and redesign. 

So, I think tekno sonic fetishism is all about these systems, and paradoxically, different knowledge systems trying to fight over each other. The Beauty of all of this is it can only accelerate.
